Teaser Tuesdays: Pretty Dead

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I finished reading Before I Fall last night (check the review here) and chose to read Pretty Dead by Francesca Lia Block next.  She's my favorite author ever and this book has been sitting on my shelf for a couple months now, so I decided that I need to get to it.

I do this a little differently.  Instead of sharing two sentences, I share two teasers, usually from different pages.

Teaser number one comes from page 138

1)
I see a boy huddled in the corner of a room, watching a woman who is lying on a bed.  Her neck is swollen and her limbs are black.  I see a boy in a dark, dirty orphanage, where the cries of children echo through the halls.

Teaser number two comes from page 9

2) People want to be me.  They think that the way I look and the things I have are enviable.  My hair is naturally blond.  I read online that the blond gene will soon become extinct.  The last blonds will be in Norway or Denmark.  Then there will be none left.

Thanks for stopping by!  Share your teasers, will ya??  :)
